The Tharu is a
New Car, and SAIC Volkswagen's "little tank" in the compact SUV segment. The 2025 model measures 4458×1841×1632 mm, with a wheelbase of 2680 mm and a drag coefficient of 0.32. The front features a black honeycomb grille integrated with LED daytime running lights, and a small rear spoiler. It's shorter than the used Tiguan but taller than the commercial Touran L, so parking height restrictions are not a concern.
The interior features a two-tone black/gray-beige color scheme, an 8-inch LCD instrument cluster, and an 8-inch embedded touchscreen. The MOS intelligent vehicle connectivity system operates smoothly. The seats are leather-wrapped, with 8-way power adjustment for the front seats and adjustable rear backrests that fold down in a 4/6 split. The floor hump is moderate, providing ample legroom for three passengers. The trunk capacity is 455-1543 L, with a depth of 1.9 m when the seats are folded down, large enough to carry skis horizontally. The space is more organized than other new energy SUVs in the same price range, and the battery doesn't encroach on the floor.
The main powertrain features a 1.5T EVO2 engine, producing 160 horsepower and 250 N·m of torque, paired with a 7-speed dry dual-clutch transmission. Combined fuel consumption is 6.7-7.0 L/100 km, requiring only 92-octane gasoline. The chassis uses a MacPherson strut front suspension and a multi-link rear suspension, with softer springs than the previous model, effectively filtering out bumps. The steering feel is on the heavier side, providing stability at high speeds up to 120 km/h. IQ.Drive driver assistance is standard across the range, including adaptive cruise control (ACC), lane keeping assist, and automatic emergency braking, making city driving and highway cruising worry-free.
Compared to the older
Used Car model, the new car adds a digital instrument cluster and connected car features; compared to
new energy vehicles, it eliminates the hassle of charging stations; compared to commercial MPVs, it maintains the low center of gravity and compact size of a sedan, making it suitable for family use, commuting, and long-distance travel.
