The Tayron is a
New Car and FAW-Volkswagen's top-selling German mid-size SUV. It measures 4593×1860×1665 mm with a wheelbase of 2731 mm, featuring a short front overhang and long wheelbase design, resulting in a drag coefficient of 0.32. The front fascia boasts an X-shaped grille with a continuous light strip, while the rear features LED sequential turn signals. It looks more stylish than a used Tiguan and is half a meter shorter than a
commercial vehicle like the Touran L, making parking in underground garages easier.
The interior features a two-tone black/gray-beige color scheme, a 12-inch floating central touchscreen, and a 10.25-inch LCD instrument cluster, supporting wireless CarPlay. The seats are upholstered in perforated Vienna leather, with 12-way power adjustment and lumbar support in the front seats, and adjustable and sliding rear backrests. Legroom is more than two fists' width, and although the floor hump is high, the backrest angle is gentle, making it comfortable for three people on long journeys. The trunk has a 506L capacity, with a depth of 1.9m when the 4/6 split-folding fold-down seats, large enough to carry skis horizontally. The low tailgate opening is more organized than most new energy SUVs, preventing the battery from encroaching on the floor.
Powertrain options include a 1.5T EVO2 and three 2.0T engines (low and high power): the 1.5T produces 160 horsepower with a combined fuel consumption of 6.7 L/100 km, requiring only 92-octane gasoline; the 2.0T low-power version produces 186 horsepower with a 7-speed wet dual-clutch transmission, offering quick and smooth shifts. The chassis features a MacPherson strut front suspension and a multi-link rear suspension. The springs are softer than the previous model, effectively filtering out bumps while maintaining resilience during high-speed lane changes; the steering is on the heavier side, providing stability at 120 km/h. IQ.Drive driver assistance is standard across the range, including adaptive cruise control (ACC), lane keeping assist, and automatic emergency braking, making city driving and highway cruising worry-free.
Compared to older
Used Cars, the new car features a digital instrument cluster and connected car technology; compared to
new energy vehicles, it eliminates the hassle of charging stations; and compared to commercial MPVs, it maintains the low center of gravity and agile profile of a sedan, making it suitable for family use, commuting, and long-distance travel.
