The 2026 Highlander is a
New Car, a representative work that elevates Toyota's "mid-size SUV benchmark" once again. The front retains the large grille and chrome strip, but a new Cyber Gold paint option appears, with metallic particles shimmering in the sunlight, giving it a more vibrant look than the older
Used Car model. The 4965mm length and 2850mm wheelbase remain unchanged, but the boxy silhouette and 20-inch multi-spoke wheels make the whole vehicle look more compact than the
commercial vehicle Tourneo, allowing for effortless U-turns in underground parking garages.
The interior has undergone a significant leap forward in quality: a three-tone cabin in Starry Brown, Ivory White, and Starry Black; a standard 15.6-inch central control screen with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 chip; wireless CarPlay, HUAWEI HiCar 5.0, and ICCOA Carlink are all included; voice control of windows and air conditioning is possible, bringing its technological sophistication to par with other
new energy vehicles in the same price range; a leather steering wheel, 50W wireless phone charging, noise-reducing windshield, and high-quality side windows for the first and second rows are all standard across the range, further enhancing the quietness compared to the previous model.
The powertrain continues to offer two options: a 2.0T gasoline engine and a 2.5L hybrid. The 2.0T gasoline version delivers 182kW/380N·m of torque, paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive, achieving a 0-100km/h acceleration time of under 7 seconds and a WLTC fuel consumption of 8.5L/100km. The 2.5L hybrid system boasts a combined power output of 181kW, available in both two-wheel and four-wheel drive, with a WLTC fuel consumption as low as 5.1L/100km. It requires only 92-octane gasoline, and its highway cruising speed is 200rpm lower than the previous model, resulting in a remarkably quiet ride that might make rear passengers wonder if they've mistakenly boarded an electric vehicle. The E-Four electronic all-wheel drive intelligently distributes torque between the front and rear axles, responding more quickly on slippery surfaces than traditional mechanical all-wheel drive, and providing greater confidence when changing lanes in rainy city conditions.
Compared to older
Used Cars, the new model features a 15.6-inch large screen and Level 2 driver assistance; compared to new energy vehicles, it eliminates the hassle of charging stations; compared to commercial MPVs, it retains the off-road capability of an SUV and the flexible 5/7-seat layout, making it suitable for city commuting, long-distance road trips, and family outings.
